SELECTING ONE MOTION DIRECT DRIVES STEP 4 – MOTOR DIAMETER IS MINIMUM DIAMETER FOR THAT MOTOR SIZE o BELT PULL FORCE DATA (SLIDE 6) ASSUMES PULLEY DIAMETER IS THE SAME AS MOTOR SIZE DIAMETER o ACCOUNT FOR BELT PULL REDUCTION WHEN DESIGNING WITH LARGER DIAMETER PULLEYS o EXAMPLE: A motor with a 110 mm diameter pulley will have only 86% of the belt pull force of a similar motor with 95 mm diameter pulley – both will use the same 81 mm motor size.

SELECTING ONE MOTION DIRECT DRIVES STEP 7 – SHELL FINISH o SQUARE DRIVE Plain shell finished with four flats to engage the customer made sprockets o Simplest, most cost-effective solution SQUARE DRIVE o PROFILE CUT IN SHELL profile sprockets can be cut right on the motor shell making the shell and the sprockets one part. o Most sanitary solution at a reasonable price TIMING BELT o CROWNED AND LAGGED o LAGGED AND CENTER GUIDED CUT IN SHELL LAGGED
SELECTING ONE MOTION DIRECT DRIVES STEP 8 – MOTOR MOUNTS BOLT MOUNTED o TWO FLATS Flats cut in shaft to prevent rotation – side plates need a cut-out to accommodate flats (see picture) o FOUR FLATS same concept as two flats but with four flats (for high torque applications) o BOLT MOUNTED motor is attached to the side plate of the conveyor with four small bolts on one end a big center bolt on the other end. This feature is not available for 58 mm motors. TWO
SELECTING ONE MOTION DIRECT DRIVES STEP 9 – ELECTRICAL CONNECTION o FLYING LEADS – Wires come out on one end of the motor shaft. Standard cable length is 4 m (12’). Larger cable length can be supplied upon demand o JUNCTION BOX – A sealed junction box attached to the motor shaft on one end of the motor.
