What is Magnet Designation? Being named a Magnet Organization is the highest level of recognition that the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) can accord to healthcare organizations which provide nursing care. Only 441* hospitals in our country (about 7%) are considered “Magnet Hospitals. ” Vanderbilt is the first in Nashville and one of 4 in the state of Tennessee. 8/5/2016

Where are we now? ? • The Third Designation application document was submitted April 1, 2016 • Magnet Champions have been identified for departments and training is ongoing. • The ANCC asked for additional information after submission which was submitted in October 2016 • Once the final application is accepted, we will be visited by Magnet Site Surveyors who will visit all areas of VUMC that involve nursing staff
