Madrid Weather from about. com • Autumn (September through November) • Like spring, autumn is an excellent time for a visit. The city's mood is quite different as everyone has recently returned to work or school after the August holidays, the temperature is very pleasant with people relieved that the intense July sun is behind them. There also plently of cultural activities going on. Late in autumn there is always the risk of some rain, but its rarely so much that an umbrella can't cope. SUITABLE CLOTHING: Like spring you have to bring clothes for a range of temperatures. Its unlikely to get so cold that a decent sweater can't cope though. Obviously the later in Autumn you go the cooler it gets. • • TEMPERATURES Here we have the average temperatures in each month in Madrid: - January: 9 ºC - February: 11 ºC - March: 15 ºC - April: 19 ºC - May: 22 ºC - June: 27 ºC - July: 31 ºC - August: 32 ºC - September: 25 ºC - October: 18 ºC - November: 13 ºC - December: 9 ºC 18 degrees Celsius is approximately 65 degrees Fahrenheit. I will pack pants instead of shorts, long-sleeve shirts, and a jacket.
Madrid, Special Considerations • Madrid is in the Central European time zone, which is six hours ahead of Cincinnati. • The vaccinations recommended by the CDC depend on a variety of factors, especially your travel destination. For example, when traveling to Western Europe, it is recommended that you receive both the hepatitis A and hepatitis B vaccinations, whereas when traveling to the South Pacific the vaccination list is much broader. Day 1 • First Stop, El Corte Ingles (basically, Spain’s Wal. Mart. ) There, I’ll purchase groceries for breakfast and lunch to cook in my hotel. I might buy some CD’s or T-shirts, too. Approximately, $200.
Day 2, Palacio Real, 9 euros, $11 • Palacio Real (Royal Palace) • This is the home of the King and Queen, Juan Carlos and Sofia. Unlike in other countries that have a king, the King of Spain has real power. For example, he can declare war. He uses this place like the President uses the White House, as his office and to entertain guest. I just took the tour, I didn’t see any royalty.
Day 3, Prado Museum, 9 euros, $11 • The Prado is the largest art gallery in Madrid and has the most complete collection of Spanish painting from 11 th-18 th centuries in the world. It has many masterpieces by many artists.
Day 4, Bullfight, 79 Euros, $116. 82 • Bullfights are like football games in the US in two ways. A band is always playing, the crowd gets excited. However, there are three matadores (bullfighters) who will kill a series of six bulls. Tickets are sold sol (sun) side and sombra (shade) side. I chose the shade, why get sunburnt?
Day 5, Trip to Toledo, Spain $6 Cathedral, $3. 75 Alcazar, $17. 75 Car • • • Spaincarrental. net allowed me to rent the blue car for 12 euros a day. Today I saw the beautiful cathedral in Toledo. It took over 200 years to build, they started in the year 1226 and finished in 1493. It is a lot older than any building in the USA. The cathedral has a lot of decorations. I also went to the Alcazar (fort in English). It is an impressive fort which is now a military museum.
Day 6, Club de Deportes, 46 euros, $68. 02 • Today, I got some exercise and went to the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. Here, I played 9 holes of golf, some tennis, swam in a nice pool. Horseback riding is very popular in Spain, and I did that here as well. Some of these outdoor clubs have an outdoor movie theater, but not this one.
