What is a Tragic Hero ? The tragic hero is a man of noble stature or high position. He is not an ordinary man, but a man with outstanding quality and greatness about him. His own destruction is for a greater cause or principle.
What is a tragic hero? Four main characteristics: You must summarise this in your introduction 1. He is a man of noble stature 2. He has a tragic flaw 3. His tragic flaw leads to his downfall 4. His actions result in a moment of realisation and an increase in selfknowledge/self-awareness. The tragic hero recognizes his or her flaw and its consequences, but only after it is too late to change the course of events.
Why is Macbeth a tragic hero? 1. He has a high reputation in Scotland as a brave and successful general 2. He has a tragic flaw- he is ambitious and places too much trust in the witches and his wife 3. His ambition leads to him committing acts of murder and betrayal, leading to his loss of sanity and the destruction of his reputation. He allows himself to be manipulated by the witches and his wife, which leads to his downfall 4. He realises that he has been deceived by the witches before being killed by Macduff. It is too late for him to rectify the mistakes that he has made due to the witches’ manipulation
