AHIMA: What we do AHIMA is taking a lead in advancing informatics, data analytics, and information governance for healthcare while continuing to lead and support world class HIM practices and standards. AHIMA members stay one step ahead through AHIMA’s cutting-edge programs and professional development opportunities, including comprehensive continuing education. AHIMA keeps HIM professionals abreast of the healthcare industry through resources to improve their knowledge, skills, and abilities
AHIMA Members • AHIMA members affect the quality of patient information and patient care at every touchpoint in the healthcare delivery cycle. Our members perform diverse roles in healthcare and are employed in a variety of work settings, including hospitals, physician offices, ambulatory care facilities, managed care facilities, long-term care facilities, consulting firms, information system vendors, colleges and universities, insurance providers, pharmaceutical companies, rehabilitation centers, and other venues.
AHIMA: Mission Vision & Values AHIMA is committed to advancing the HIM profession in an increasingly electronic and global environment through leadership in advocacy, education, certification, and lifelong learning. The health industry continues to evolve, and AHIMA is working to advance the accuracy, reliability, and usefulness of health data by leading key industry initiatives and advocating for consistent standards. Needs are evolving from simply translating data to turning data into knowledge that powers better healthcare decision making. AHIMA ensures that HIM professionals are armed with the skills and tools to act as leaders, using quality information to achieve the Triple Aim of reduced costs, better care, and improved population health.

Summary: 2017 Strategy/Focus • Informatics/Analytics: Lead in Information and Analytics – Gain Recognition as the professional association of choice • Information Governance: Champion for IG – Increase adoption by utilizing AHIMA’s IG adoption • HIM Pathways : Create pathways for HIM professionals – Transition HIM professionals to the roles of the future by advancing education, competencies and skills • Consumer Engagement: Connect Consumers to their health information – Partnering with others to reach consumers directly. Educate and ensure they know their rights
Ma. HIMA Strategic Plan 2014/2016 – Where are we? • Student Engagement • Collaboration with other associations having similar or complimentary missions • Increase member participation by use of technology
2016/2017 Goals and Accomplishments • Information Governance – – Goal – 1 speaker at each session and host workshop – Achievement: Completed speakers sessions; workshop tbd • Informatics – completed workshop on 3/31/2017 • Leadership Development – – attempted to host Project Mgt workshop 9/31/2016 but cancelled due to low attendance; – Franklin Covey speaker at Fall Meeting on Mgt styles • Student Engagement/Outreach – – created 1 video; – school visits in Fall 2016/Spring 2017 and panel forum discussions at school sites – Year Up – Joy coordinated AHIMA virtual lab • Increase participation in Ma. HIMA educational events – Continuing efforts with NYHIMA and ACDIS – Boston 2017 – MHA information
Questions on Ma. HIMA 2017 -2018 Strategic Goals • After review the prior years goals, what should be our focus in 2018? • Should we focus on all 4 AHIMA pillars or Ma. HIMA 5 objectives from last year? • We should set the priority? • Set targets and measurable results for each of the pillar/objective? • How do we measure our accomplishment? • Do we create sub-groups with a set focus with completion dates?
