Patentability criteria 1/ Novelty The invention is new if it has not been disclosed before the filing of the patent application. Abstracts, posters, publications, conferences Training course reports, Master or doctorate thesis, Thesis defence (except in case of private audience) Meetings, TV, radio 2/Inventiveness / Non-obviousness An expert/engineer must not be able to obviously deduce the invention from the state-of-the-art. 3/Industrial application The invention must find at least one application in a technological domain. www. universite-lyon. fr/lst

Summary of IP good practices Do not disclose the content of the invention PRIOR to the patent : this would destroy its novelty. A non-disclosure agreement (NDA) is essential before meeting any partner (industrial or commercial).
