CHARACTER DEFINING FEATURES Carved limestone eagle at roof ridge Location near capitol, one of the oldest commercial buildings in downtown Austin Italianate window and door openings. Keystones and segmental arches with limestone accents. Use of Austin buff brick, especially the decorative patterns at the pediment Decorative wood balcony (although of recent construction it reflects the original design)
BUILDING HISTORY 1987 Charles Lundberg moves to Austin, starts bakery 1895 Lundberg passes away, wife sells business to Henry Maerki 1906 Maerki sells the business 1906 -1963 Building houses electric company, finance office, nightclub 1963 Heritage Society of Austin purchases building 1969 State of Texas assumes ownership, becomes threatened with destruction After outpouring of support, state turns it over to the City of Austin 1974 -1976 Office of Bicentennial Affairs 1976 Converted to ‘Old Bakery and Emporium’
