Luke 8: 22 -25 22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake. ” So they got into a boat and set out.

Luke 8: 22 -25 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.

Luke 8: 22 -25 24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25“Where is your faith? ” he asked his disciples.

Luke 8: 22 -25 In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him. ”

Despite everything they have seen… Often it’s easier for us to see Jesus work in someone else’s life than in our own

22 Now on one of [those] days Jesus and His disciples got into a boat, and He said to them, "Let us go over to the other side of the lake. " So they launched out. 23 But as they were sailing along He fell asleep; and a fierce gale of wind descended on the lake, and they [began] to be swamped and to be in danger. (Luke 8: 22 -23)

The Humanity Of Jesus – He Was Exhausted • Note - That there is a great storm and great danger

MARK 4: 36 -39 36 Leaving the crowd, they took Him along with them in the boat, just as He was; and other boats were with Him. 37 And there arose a fierce gale of wind, and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already filling up.

38 Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke Him and said to Him, "Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing? " 39 And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, "Hush, be still. " And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.

HIS POWER OVER NATURE • What is a miracle? • It’s an interruption of the natural course of events • Things are naturally going to go one way and God intervenes and changes it • There are two extremes when it comes to people’s beliefs about miracles:

1. NEVER 2. ALWAYS

PURPOSES BEHIND MIRACLES: Hebrews 2: 1 -4 1 For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away [from it]. 2 For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience

received a just penalty, 3 how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard, 4 God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.

“Sign” – points to something ahead

“Sign” – points to something ahead • Miracles weren’t the end… they pointed to something

Three resurrections were recorded. Jesus left the grave yards basically full. • The sign pointed to Jesus and to a time when everything will be perfect • Always be leery of anybody who makes a bigger deal about the sign than they do about Jesus

Miracles point us to a day when everything is going to be perfect, everyone healed and everyone resurrected. • Note – He quiets one storm and creates another!

LUKE 8: 25 And He said to them, "Where is your faith? " They were fearful and amazed, saying to one another, "Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him? "

THE DISCIPLES ARE TERRIFIED He’s not just a teacher or prophet or healer…

HE IS LORD!

It’s the difference in seeing a sign for the Grand Canyon and actually standing at the top, looking in and being staggered by it’s enormity!

Being terrified is appropriate! • Your second response should be HOPE! Jesus has the power to calm your storm…the power that shook you up can bless you.

Mark 6 – • Jesus wants to get in the boat with you • He’s walking on water to get in the boat with you

WHATEVER STORM YOU ARE IN… 1. Family storm 4. Health storm 2. Financial storm 5. Addiction storm 3. Mental storm 6. Sin storm
