Luca Signorelli nasceu Luca d’Egidio di Ventura, em Cortona, em 1445. Pintor renascentista italiano, um dos grandes mestres da Escola da Úmbria, onde provavelmente foi aluno de Piero della Francesca. Biography: Luca Signorelli was born Luca d’Egidio di Ventura, in Cortona, in 1445. He was an Italian Renaissance painter, one of the great masters of the Umbrian School, where probably was a pupil of Piero della Francesca. In 1472 the young man executed paintings in Arezzo and, in 1474, in Città di Castello. Signorelli was notable for the accurate use of perspective. He was part of the select group of artists called to Rome by Pope Sistus VI to decorate with frescoes the “Sistine Chapel” in the Vatican. Signorelly worked in Rome from 1478 to 1484. Among his works it's mentioned, also, the decoration of the Vestry of St. John, in the “Santuary della Santa Casa”, in Loreto. In the “Monastery of Monte Oliveto Maggiore”, in Siena, Signorelli painted eight frescoes that were part of a vast series of the life of St. Benedict. He went to Orvieto, where he painted a splendid series of six frescoes depicting the end of the world and the Last Judgement (1499 -1504) for the Chapel of S. Brizio in the Cathedral. At the end of his career , Signorelli had become a conservative artist, working in Cortona, where he produced numerous altarpieces. He died in Cortona, in 1523.
