Plot Since the age of 5 Rosie and Alex had been best friends, on her 18 th birthday she gets quite drunk and Alex kisses her, however the morning after she doesn’t remember half the night. Upset about getting drunk she tells Alex she wishes the night had never happened, Alex took this the wrong way and believes that Rosie thinks they should only be friends. Greg asked Rosie to the dance, she originally had plans with Alex but she accepted Greg’s offers when she learnt that Alex wanted to go with Bethany. After the dance Rosie has sex with Greg. After some time Rosie gets an acceptance letter from Boston University for a Hotel Management course. She rushes over to Alex’s house (which is just across the road) to tell him the news, but when she gets there Alex’s sister tells her that Alex is having sex with Bethany. Rosie then throws up, and she discovers that she is pregnant, but she refuses to tell Alex, fearing that he give up his opportunity to study at Harvard. Soon after Alex left for America she gives birth to a daughter that she named Katie, Alex learns of Rosie’s child from Bethany. Rosie makes Alex Katie’s Godfather. 5 years later Rosie visits Alex in Boston and they spend a day visiting places. The next morning Alex’s girlfriend reveals that she is pregnant, and Rosie tries to discuss his current living situation, infuriated he says “At least my child will have two parents”! Upset and angry Rosie leaves for home immediately. She reconnects with Greg, who initially left for Ibiza upon learning of her pregnancy, and they eventually marry. Rosie then learns that Alex has split from his girlfriend, because the child wasn’t his. When Rosie’s father dies Alex attends and reconciles with her, but Greg behaves immaturely throughout the funeral. Soon after, Rosie bumps into Bethany, who is now a famous model, and tells her that Alex is in America, after learning the Bethany is going there on a trip. Noticing Greg’s disrespectful behaviour at the funeral, Alex writes Rosie a letter telling her that’s he deserves better, but before Rosie can read it Greg hides it from her. Rosie then discovers that Greg is cheating, and kicks him out. Whilst rummaging through his belongings, she finds the note. Rosie tries to call Alex, but learns from Bethany, who is living with him, that they are going to marry. They invite Rosie to be the “best man” at their wedding. During the speech Rosie reveals that she loves him- as a friend. Her daughter Katie brings friends, Toby (A friendship that is parallel to Rosie and Alex’s). While dancing Toby kisses Katie and she runs outside, Rosie and Alex follow her. Alex comforts her and tells her to follow her heart or she might regret it, referencing to how he felt about Rosie. Toby finds Katie and apologises. Alex remembers that Rosie doesn’t remember the kiss they has on her 18 th birthday, and realises that he misinterpreted Rosie saying that she wanted to forget that night, and just being friends. Rosie’s dream finally comes true when she gets to open up her own hotel, Alex arrives as one of her first guests, she reveals that he has ended his marriage with Bethany, he talks about a recurring dream about them being together, and they share a kiss.

Key Features The Settings. The Film is set in many different places. At the beginning the film is set in an English town (unnamed) And the other main setting is where Alex lives, Boston. Codes and Conventions. Things that happen again, and again in this film is that when Rosie or Alex find each other again there is always something there to block them. For example, children, other relationships and arguments. This makes the audience know it is a teen film because these situations are recurring in teen films. There is always some sort of problem that is in the way of getting the main goal/ goals at the end of the film. Messages and Values – Love, Rosie is a film with two morals, it has a more deeper meaning rather than two people just missing their chances. One of the films morals is: If you want something, don’t wait for it to come to you, go and get it yourself. The other moral is: Sometimes you have to see that what you want is right in front of you. Main Topics – The obvious main topic for the film is love/ romance. However it’s also about finding yourself and realising what you really want, because in the film the characters have to learn from their mistakes and be wiser, instead of fighting something/ someone every time something doesn’t end up going their way. Narrative Structure This film fits into three of the structures. The film has a linear structure ( beginning, middle, end ). The film also has a closed structure, it has a definite ending and the audience aren’t left to wonder what will happen next. Finally the film also sort of has a circular structure because the beginning is quite intense and there are many situations that end up with the character and audience journeying through years to end up with the same two people in a similar situation to the start.
