Louis Le Nain nasceu em Laon, França, em 1593. Louis era o mais novo de três irmãos pintores que trabalhavam em conjunto; os outros eram Antoine e Mateus. Em 1629, os irmãos Le Nain abriram um estúdio em Paris. Como assinavam suas pinturas somente com o sobrenome, é difícil distinguir seus trabalhos, embora se acredite geralmente que as representações de cenas de camponeses em suas vidas cotidianas, além do tom de pintura muito próximo ao de Velázquez, realizadas em uma veia realista e monumental, indicam o estilo de Louis. Biography: Louis Le Nain was born in Laon, France, on 1593. Louis was the youngest of the three brothers painters who worked together. The others were Antoine and Mathew. In 1629, the Nain brothers opened a studio in Paris. As they signed their paintings only with the surnames, it is difficult to distinguish their work. although it is believed that the depictions of peasants in their everyday lives, besides the hues of painting very close to Velasquez, performed a realistic and monumental vein, and points to Louis' style. In 1648, Louis, with his brothers Mathieu and Antoine, was a founding member of the “Académie de Peinture et de Sculpture”. He died on May 23, 1648.
