Looking back Benefits of EDRENE for Kennisnet Jan
Looking back: Benefits of EDRENE for Kennisnet Jan Kees Meindersma, Henk Nijstad Kennisnet Foundation, The Netherlands June 2009 www. kennisnet. nl
Highlights of EDRENE 1. Awareness that ‘we are not alone out there’: • Along the path we meet the same challenges • We choose similar solutions for these challenges • But together we will create & share even better solutions 2. In comparison to many European projects this is not about creating new technology solutions or trying to create a market for European learning objects, it’s about a learning network 3. Reuse of the Vocabulary Bank (from a BECTA presentation) 4. Benchmarking: confirmation that Kennisnet’s ‘Educational Chain Model’ is the right approach for The Netherlands at this moment.
Finding: if you really want to learn from each other, you need to invest in each other. EDRENE creates the setting for this …. . and not only on repositories and learning objects…. . there is even more to share
Other benefits of EDRENE 1. New • • insights & knowledge on: Business models & market dynamics User interfacing User engagement (lektion, klascement!) Use of metadata (user participation, vdex’s / standards) Development and implementation of standards Authoring tools Copyright issues Etc … 2. New and valuable contacts, for example • we were invited to the INTRALLECT user conference • in BECTA we have a partner to share more extensively the ‘ecosystem approach’
Suggestions for the remaining sessions In order to: • Bring in even more outside knowledge • Get people (even) more prepared • Get (even) sharper discussions … • Pick out the essentials … • Share the learnings more thoroughly We suggest to invite for every workshop 3 persons out of the network to prepare the session: • Have influence on the agenda • Create 5 ‘preparation questions’/homework for the participants • Moderate/ mediate the sessions
Other suggestions Possible thematic subjects (like the broadcasters): • • Authoring tools User interfaces (engagement of users) Repository services Impact of interactive boards on learning objects (new kinds, additional metadata, interoperability, repositories) Contents could be: overview of best examples; comparison of functionality; roadmaps; open standards; possible issues & bottlenecks, implementation strategies.
