Long Mynd 'Amazing Amazon' Homework The Amazonian rainforest, with the Amazon River snaking its way through it, is an amazing place! It has the most varied plant life on Earth, with about 50, 000 different species. 1. Please choose an animal that can be found in the Amazonian rainforest: perhaps a tree frog or salamander, one of the many species of monkey, an interesting insect (Brazil has tens of thousands of butterflies) or one of the many hundreds of types of birds. 2. Draw your chosen animal using different kinds of pencil if you have them at home; try a 2 B or 4 B for shading. 3. 'Target 100!' Once you have researched your chosen animal and found out its size, where and how it lives (in the canopy or on the forest floor? ), what it eats, and whether its habitat is under threat, try to write an information sheet with at least 100 words. Good luck and please bring your homework to school on Monday 22 nd February.

Long Mynd Class Spring 2016 topic: 'Amazing Amazon' The Amazon Basin really is amazing!

Long Mynd Class Spring 2016 topic: 'Amazing Amazon' The Amazon Basin really is amazing! This topic will focus on its climate, diversity of life, scale, and interesting issues such as: the problems facing its indigenous people and deforestation. English lessons will focus on stories based in the rainforest, with a particular focus on how punctuation marks help a reader. Texts will also include poetry with an environmental theme, and persuasive writing based on ecological issues. Maths continues to follow the National Curriculum and will have links to theme as we ask the class to record data about the length of rivers and the compare the climates of the UK and Brazil. Art, Design Technology and Music will be linked to theme as we will make carnival masks inspired by rainforest animals. Long Mynd will create mixed media collages based on the jungle landscapes of Rosseau; we will also use ICT to create our own layered images of rainforest scenes. As well as composing our own rainforest music, we will listen to South American rhythms and music from indigenous rainforest tribes from around the world. PE will include swimming (see separate letter), Dodgeball, Tag Rugby and Dance, which will be inspired by the animals of the rainforest. Our Science theme for this term is all about sound and how sounds are made. Useful dates and additional information: Tuesday 9 th February is Safer Internet Day; more information for parents and carers can be found here: http: //www. saferinternet. org. uk/advice-and-resources/parents-and-carers. Wednesday 9 th March at 2 pm parents are invited to an assembly of shared work from the topic which will include singing and dancing, art and craft. It is extremely helpful if your child has their PE kit in school every day, including kit for outdoor sport such as trainers and tracksuit bottoms. Forest School will continue on alternate Friday afternoons.
