Logistics – Cross Docking • Contractors pick, pack, label and deliver supplies to the Brigade Distribution Centre • LFB daily van service distributes supplies & operational equipment to sites • Further review of logistics for improvement opportunities is in progress
Information Technology • Thin Client terminals since 1999: 80% energy saving over PCs • Server power down at evenings and weekends: saving ~21, 000 k. W/Hrs/yr = 3. 7 tonnes CO 2/quarter
Information Technology • IT Virtualisation: reduction of physical servers by 2/3 88% reduction in energy • Sharepoint –further reducing storage needs
Responsible Procurement • Procurement Dept EMS is certified to ISO 14, 001 • Standard environmental questions used in supplier short listing • Future contracts risk assessed against our responsible procurement policy
Management Processes • Sustainable Development Impact Assessments for new or revised policies, procedures and projects • Committee papers require reporting against environmental implications
Recycling Initiatives • Monthly average recycling rates across sites = 44% • Hose Recycling: 50% profits donated to Fire Fighters Charity • Battery recycling • Printer cartridge recycling
