Welcome All buildings on campus are now open and we are ready to welcome back our students and staff for the 2020/21 academic year. Most staff and students should continue to work and study remotely where possible. This induction outlines how to keep yourself and others as safe as possible when returning to campus.

Coronavirus Please make sure you’re familiar with these factors in regards to COVID-19: Ø Virus symptoms Ø Virus transmission Ø Rules for isolating Always refer to official advice as the situation changes rapidly.
When to return to campus Ø We continue to encourage all staff and students to work remotely where possible for the time being, where your work, studies, and personal situation allows. Ø If your role means you don’t need to attend site to do your job, you may be able to continue working remotely until January 2021. If you prefer to work onsite you will need to liaise with your line manager. Ø If you need to be onsite to do your job then there is a presumption that you will return to campus for the number of hours required in order to fulfil your role from 1 st September 2020.
Vulnerable persons Coronavirus can make anyone seriously ill, but evidence shows that certain individuals may be affected more than others. The following factors may increase your risk: Ø If you are classed as clinically vulnerable. Ø If you are classed as clinically extremely vulnerable. Ø If you are from the Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) community. Ø Your age – your risk increases as you get older. Ø Your gender – the risk is greater for males.
Returning to UCL Ø If you are classed or caring for someone who is high risk you should consider the risks of returning to UCL and discuss them with your line manager. Staff should use the individual health assessment tool to consider what a return means for them. Ø If you are classed in another group, you can travel to UCL only if you are unable to work from home and your building / department has undergone the full return to work process. Ø Strictly follow government guidelines on social distancing, hand washing and respiratory hygiene.

Connect to protect Ø If you feel symptomatic or you have been contacted by NHS Test and Trace and asked to self-isolate you must stay at home. If you are on campus you must travel to your place of residence as quickly as possible. Ø The UCL Connect to Protect tool has been designed with public health experts to help us monitor and respond to coronavirus cases at UCL. Ø We will use the data from the tool to make sure our people are receiving the correct support and to monitor the number of cases in our community. This does not replace NHS Test and Trace.
Connect to protect You must stay at home and use the UCL Connect to Protect reporting tool if: Ø you think you may have coronavirus; Ø you have tested positive for the virus; Ø you are waiting for the results of a coronavirus test; Ø you need to self-isolate; Ø or if you have been contacted by NHS Test and Trace and asked to self-isolate.

Plan your travel Ø Avoid travelling to UCL unless you need to - continue to work from home. Ø If you need to travel to UCL, try to avoid putting yourself at unnecessary risk. Ø If you can walk or cycle, we encourage you to do so. Ø If you need to use your car, please ensure that private arrangements have been made for parking. Ø UCL will be prioritising parking spaces for blue badge holders. Prebooking is required and there is no guarantee of a space.
Public transport Ø If you must use public transport, consider traveling outside of peak times (05: 45 – 08: 15 and 16: 00 – 17: 30). Ø Check with your provider for the latest travel advice before you leave. Ø As of 15 th June 2020, a face covering is mandatory on public transport. Ensure this is adhered to. Ø Wash or sanitise your hands before beginning your journey and as soon as possible when your reach your destination.
Public transport Ø Try to maintain social distancing, for example when approaching or passing other people, waiting on platforms or at stops. Ø If you can't stay away from people (e. g. when boarding or alighting) try to face away from other people, and keep the time you spend near others as short as possible. Ø Be aware of the surfaces you touch. Be careful not to touch your face. Ø Use contactless payment where possible, to avoid topping up Oyster cards. Ø Always follow instructions from Tf. L or other transport staff.

Welcome stations Ø When you arrive at UCL, you will see new ‘Welcome Stations’ setup at the main entrance to a building / area. Ø They will provide information on UCL’s COVID-19 response. Ø Hand sanitiser will be available. Ø Specific site rules may be detailed at the welcome station. Ø Ensure these rules are followed.

Social distancing Ø Maintain social distancing at all times, based on current UK Government guidelines. Ø If this is not possible, face away from other people when passing them. Ø Work with others to stagger start times, end times and break times to avoid queues. Ø You will see various new signs on campus, ensure you follow all instructions on the signage. Ø Follow one way systems around buildings and campus, always follow the marked routes.
Social distancing Ø Some rooms like toilets may be restricted to single -use only. Follow signs and respect limits. Ø Some shared areas may be closed or changed to allow for social distancing. Do not move furniture or change layouts. Ø Avoid using shared equipment wherever possible. Ø Meetings are discouraged and should take place by video or voice call, even if in the same building.

Corridors, stairs and lifts Ø Signs will be in place consistently in corridors, ensure you follow these to keep on the correct route and a safe distance apart. Ø These signs will be sited at every change of direction and specify areas of no entry. Ø Where queues are formed in corridors (e. g. to access the kitchen or toilets), keep your distance and face away from others when passing through the corridor here.
Corridors, stairs and lifts Ø Staircases will be designated for ascending or descending, this will be made clear with signage. Ø Avoid using lifts where possible, so that they may be used by those who need them. Ø Lifts and staircases may be single-person use only.

Good habits Ø Wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds. Ø Use hand sanitiser if you can't use soap and water. Ø Always remember to wash or sanitise as soon as you reach the campus. Ø It is recommended to keep your hands moisturised after regular cleaning.
Good habits Ø Catch coughs and sneezes in a tissue, remember to; Catch it > Bin it > Kill it Ø Avoid touching your face without washing your hands. Ø Do not shake hands or hug other people. Ø Keep shared areas clear of personal items to prevent transmission; use lockers or your dedicated workspace.

Cleaning Ø Cleaners in your building will clean highcontact surfaces on a regular basis each day. Ø Disinfectant wipes will be provided at workstations, use these to clean down your own work area at the start and end of each shift. Ø Use disinfectant wipes to clean down shared equipment (e. g. printers) after use.

Face coverings Ø If you can wear a face covering you are expected to do so. This applies when you’re on campus, both inside buildings and when moving around outside, offices, labs and teaching spaces. Ø Face coverings should be worn during classroom teaching. Ø Face coverings are not the same as face masks, but can help protect others around you. Ø Everyone should aim to provide their own covering for general use.
Face coverings Ø Where identified as a mandatory requirement for particular roles through risk assessment, UCL will provide face coverings or masks. Ø It is understood that wearing face coverings all day can be uncomfortable and therefore if you are alone in a room, or outside with plenty of space, we encourage you to take breaks from wearing your face covering. Ø UCL acknowledges that there may be good reasons why you are not able to wear a face covering. Ø We are encouraging staff who cannot use face coverings to obtain and use a face covering exemption card from Tf. L.

Kitchens and toilets Ø Use of restrooms must adhere to social distancing rules and local arrangements will be put in place. Ø Kitchens and tea points should be used as infrequently as possible, and operate with a single-user policy. Ø Shared facilities such as fridges and microwaves should be used as infrequently as possible, and handles should be wiped after use. Ø Staff are encouraged to bring their own cutlery and food, and eat at their desk or outside the building.

Emergency arrangements Ø In an emergency - call UCL security on 020 7679 2222 or extension 222, before calling 999. Ø In the event of a fire alarm sounding, all staff must evacuate as normal by exiting the building through the nearest escape route. Ø Wherever possible, observe social distancing whilst evacuating and at assembly points.
Emergency arrangements Ø If there is a conflict between social distancing and rapid evacuation, focus on getting out quickly as the priority. Ø When given the 'all clear' to return to a building, make sure to re-enter by staggering the return. Ø When re-entering a building, wash or sanitise your hands.
