• Theme: Nature • Favorite technique: Cutting and pasting/collage • Work Process: She begins with a “dummy book” that is made from pencil drawings. Next, she decides the topic of her book. Once she has a topic, she then researches to learn more. Lastly, she begins her artwork by cutting out each piece individually and then glues the pieces on the pages of her book.
Selected Works Angel Hide and Seek (illustrator) Chicka Boom (illustrator) Growing Vegetable Soup Color Farm Color Zoo Crocodile Smile (illustrator) Un Lazo a La Luna Mole's Hill: A Woodland Tale Snowballs Thump, Rat-a-Tat (illustrator) A Pair of Socks (illustrator) Under My Nose Waiting for Wings Circus Nuts to You Leaf Man
Color Zoo • Color zoo is one of her most famous books. Ehlert won the Caldecott Honor award for this book. She made an educational book made out of colors and shapes. The shapes were animals and allows for kids to make their own animals. Great book to use in the classroom! • This is the book I will read to the class
Conclusion • I would not use her in a children's author study, due to the lack of information on her. I view her as an artist, not a an author. • I would use her books in younger grades. There are great follow up activities that can be done, especially if your doing a lesson on shapes
