Two Sources:
NDP Theory & Application NDP is an attachment-based play paradigm emphasizing: Sensory development Rhythm and regulation Embodied-dramatisation
These three paradigms form the basis of developmental progression: of attachment-based play 1. Neuro-Dramatic-Play (NDP) 2. Embodiment - Projection - Role (EPR) 3. Theatre of Resilience (To. R)
Sensory Messy Rhythmic Dramatic Play
Sensory Play Messy Play Neuro – Dramatic – Play Rhythmic Play Dramatic Play
Sensory Integration Sensory Play and Messy Play are important in the learning process: ‘body and brain communicating with each other’
Rocking and Heartbeats
Vestibular and Proprioceptive Senses Our balance and awareness of our body in space are important ‘whole body’ senses that can be helped through Rhythmic Play: rocking, clapping and dance, for example
Don’t forget to include outdoor play
Four hours per day!
Water Play outdoors and indoors is essential
Messy Play Stages with Flour and Water Sticky > Slimy > Textured > Molding > Pliable > FORM Shaving Foam and Slime can be used for messy play Sand water can also be messy
Dry mess can also be used
Dry Play! Messy play can also be dry: Rice, Macaroni, Spaghetti, Lentils, Hedgehogs with macaroni prickles! Also rummaging and sorting with bead and button box
The Creative Play Stages (Pre-birth to 6 years) Mess to Form (NDP) Form to Narrative (EPR) Narrative to Performance (To. R)
Heartbeats and Rocking
Construction Play For people who cannot tolerate wet messy play, it is necessary to start with form and see if it is possible to work backwards to mess. There are various reasons for people to avoid messy play: - upbringing and ‘keeping clean and tidy’ - enough mess in their lives all ready! - early Adverse Child Experience (ACE) - children on the autistic spectrum
Projection Embodiment Projection Role (EPR) Role
Embodiment: from birth to 13 months Embodiment: All experience is through the whole body and the senses. Leads to: Transitional Object (Winnicott) at around 12 -13 months
Projection: from EPR 13 months – 3 years Activities and games beyond the body Painting, building, puzzles, construction, rummaging and sorting simple puppets
Safe playing with Lego
Projection: from EPR 13 months – 3 years Activities and games beyond the body Painting, building, puzzles, construction, rummaging and sorting simple puppets
Role Stage (of Embodiment-Projection-Role): 3. 5 – 6 Years Dressing up, family role play, fairy stories, puppets, simple masks
Different Role Activities from EPR Role Play with: Puppets Dolls House Super Heroes Dressing-up
ROLE: Flash! Always on the move…
First Muslim Female Superhero
Link between Role Play activities and the Theatre of Resilience Confidence grows in exploring different roles through the sand tray, dressing up, puppets and dolls house Performances become more sustained. Scenes are extended and stories become more elaborate. Then the transition takes place to Theatre of Resilience
Performance Expression Theatre of Resilience Inner Change Bounce Back
Theatre of Resilience The importance of performance for building confidence, expressing feelings safely and collaboration with others.
