LOG BOOK 9. ožujka 2018.
• Log book is a prime piece of document that has in its record all actions that are undertaken in the bridge. • On ship’s there are: deck log book, engine room log book, medical log book etc.
• Log book must be kept on ships with more than 50 BT’s and those with 110 KW and above regardless of their tonnage. • The ship log book is kept during navigation and the stay of the ship in the port every day from 0 to 24 hours, and it is filled in on a separate page for each day.
• During sailing or while the guard is on board, the ship log book is kept by the officer at guard or the commander if he keeps watch. • If the log book is filled in by the officer, the commander verifies the entered data.
• The data on: course, variation, deviation, direction and wind force (Beaufort scale), sea condition, fog and visibility scale, temperature and etc. are entered into the ship’s log book on the hourly basis. • Every eight hours, data of the tanks, baldness and amount of drinking water are entered. • The estimated data on the position of the ship, the general course, crossed sea miles and midway speed of the ship in knots are entered every twelve hours.
• In the “daily notes” column, the data is entered on the time of departure and arrival of the ship, embarkation and disembarkation of the crew members, possible diseases on the board, arbitrary abandonment of the ship and all others events on board. • Harbour Commander rewiews the ship’s log book, verifies it and can make remarks with regard to the method it is kept.
• An original page should never be removed from the log book. • This is because the log book is used as official evidence in case of an unfortunate event. • The log book entry carries the deck officer signature which means that the deck officer is responsible for all that is recorded by him which is a mark of his competency and accuracy of the data that is entered.
