What is a Lockdown? A Lockdown is a rehearsed crisis response plan that is

What is a Lockdown? A Lockdown is a rehearsed crisis response plan that is activated once there is an actual or perceived threat of harm to students, staff, and/or visitors. The plan requires the participation of all employees to implement the plan in order to minimize the risk of injury.

Lockdown �An announcement will be made over the intercom the building is in “lockdown”.

Lockdown �An announcement will be made over the intercom the building is in “lockdown”. �The strobe light will be turned on to alert the staff and students in the cafeteria and gym. �If a person reports information that leads to the lockdown, it is important to obtain the persons name, address, and telephone number to provide to police. �Staff and students on the exterior of the building will be notified by intercom and/or walkie-talkie. If the danger is inside the building those at recess should seek cover or concealment immediately in the area behind the community pool building to the east of campus.

Lockdown �Call 911 to report the situation, stay on the line, follow instructions given by the 911 operator. �The bells will be turned off. �The district staff including administrators, teachers, or support personnel will not be used at any time to search the building. Searches during lockdown are the responsibility of trained police personnel. �Mc. Kinney PD have been provided access to MISD facilities and will not require assistance to gain access.

Note missing homeroom students. �Remain silent �Do not use a cell phone within the classroom to call or text family. � Ensure all cell phone ringers are off.

Classroom Lockdown Procedure Cont. �Depending on the nature of the emergency, law enforcement may come to your classroom and evacuate you and your students. �If this occurs, follow the instructions given by the officer. �Take the class roster and your emergency bag with you. It should be hung near the door. The emergency bag should have 3 copies of the class roster with student ID #’s, emergency contacts list, first aid kit, and a flashlight. �It is important to know absent or early release students. �Remain with students during the evacuation. �Upon arrival at the safe site, take attendance. Report any missing or injured students to the Command Center.

Kinney PD. �If the danger is outside students from recess will be entering the cafeteria for shelter.

Community Alert Notice �Community alert notice to be put in place when an outside community danger is near the campus. �Example : Outside of school threat �Announce over intercom once notice is received �Notify staff and students that are outside of the building to come in for protection. �Secure all perimeters of the building. �No one leaves or enters the building until the Community Alert Notice has been lifted.

Tornado Drill Guidelines � An announcement will be made over the PA system to alert students and faculty that a tornado drill will begin. � Classes will move to their assigned areas. � Students should leave the classroom in a single file in a quiet and orderly manner. The teacher should follow the last student out and bring the emergency bag with the class rosters. � Students should go directly to their designated area. Each teacher needs to remain with his or her class at all times. � Students are to be seated as soon as possible. The crouched position, facing the wall, hands interlocked over the head, elbows to knees will be taken ONLY on direction of the area supervisor. � Students will return to class on directions from the PA system or area supervisor.
