The study of the earth and the ways people live and work on it.
Where is it? Absolute location- precise point, where a latitude and longitude line cross. Grid System – a pattern in which the lines of longitude and latitude cross one another Hemisphere Relative location- it’s location in relation to other places
Latitude: Imaginary lines, also known as parallels that circle the Earth parallel to the Equator. They measure the distance north and south of the Equator in degrees Longitude: Imaginary lines also known as meridians that measure distances east or west. They run from pole to pole. 0° longitude is the Prime Meridian.
What is it like there? Physical Climate, landforms, bodies of water, natural vegetation, weather, natural resources Human features population and culture People, work and play, where they live, move about, how they live Vegetation and wildlife
What is the relationship between people and their environment? Adaptation to environment How people change their environment Environmental problems
How are people and places connected? Why do people move? What do we use to get around and how does it affect our environment? Interdependence- movement of goods, information, and ideas worldwide.
How is the world divided? Areas can be divided by physical features, language, government, etc. Two types of regions: Uniform region-has boundaries because of a uniform characteristic. Functional region- area focused on a central point with surrounding area linked to that point.
