Content Area: Geography • Third Grade • Summary: The purpose of this Power Point is to have the students understand the difference between relative and absolute location using real world applications and locations found in the Americas. • Learning Objective: Given websites that contain definitions and examples of relative and absolute location, the student will learn the difference between relative and absolute location by correctly answering all of the questions in this module. • State Standard: 3. 5 Explain the difference between relative and absolute location. • ISTE Standard: 3. Just in case you forgot. . . • Latitude: the lines on a map that run horizontally - Called parallel because they are equidistant from each other and are parallel. - Each line is exactly 69 miles apart - Numbered from 0°-90° North and South • Equator: imaginary line that separates the Northern and Southern hemispheres, is labeled 0° If you need some more help check out this information here. (Rosenberg, 2015) • Longitude: lines on a map that run vertically - Also known as meridians - They touch at the poles and are widest apart at the equator - Numbered 0°-180° East and West
