What is an LMS � Learning Management System is a software application that delivers an educational system electronically. � It allows users to administer and track educational goals, data and content. � Many options are available to upload content, administer tests and quizzes as well facilitate online discussions. � Social and professional networking options as well for sharing ideas, documents and resources.
Face-to-Face usage � LMS allows the students to turn assignments electronically. The instructor may give the students the option to turn in an assignment by 10 pm on a specific date for flexibility. � Teachers can continue discussions outside of the classroom in a discussion forum. � Teachers can upload content that students can access from home if needed. � Lets look at some options……. .
Moodle � Pros ◦ Private website that is free. ◦ Open Source with over 100 plug-ins ◦ Chats, assignments, databases, workshops, and many courses. ◦ Moodle Partner (tech support) 24/7 � Cons ◦ Small upload abilities – under 2 mb ◦ Cannot embed with certain browsers ◦ Some features are hard to use.
Ed. Modo � Pros ◦ Teachers can connect and work 1 -on-1 with studnets. ◦ Parents, Teachers and students can connect privately where teacher can share assignments, documents, and files with students. ◦ There is no private messaging – all posts are public for the group. Safe Environment. � Cons ◦ There is no support feature built into the application. ◦ There is no course authoring – more networking oriented. ◦ There is not an option for video conferencing or mobile learning.
Schoologoy � Pros ◦ Track assignments, grades, email and calendars in one place. ◦ Post content ◦ Group discussions with online tests and quizzes ◦ Secure platforms ◦ Professional Learning communities and networking � Cons ◦ No video conferencing ◦ No internal or external training. ◦ It is not SCORM compliant.
Usability � Moodle: ◦ Moodle is easy to navigate and easy to set up. ◦ Moodle has a simple to use upload utility for content and is relatively quick. It does not support large files and may restrict some content from being uploaded and used by users. ◦ Setting up courses and adding content is simple.
Usability cont. � Edmoto ◦ The usability is roughly the same as Moodle, but there is more difficulty finding assignments when they are customized and only sent to a group rather than to the whole class.
Usability cont. � Schoolology: ◦ Very user friendly and easy to navigate but not as easy as moodle. ◦ The Support does not have as many options as Moodle, but it is easy to manage a classroom using the feaures.

Recommendation: � Moodle based on usability, course management, and options available.
