Strategies for Preventing Use of Drugs School efforts n n Drug-free school zones – area within 1000 feet of the school Drug education classes, zero tolerance policies, expulsion, police & security presence

Becoming drug free Never too late to get help 1 st step = admitting you have a problem 2 nd step = get help!! Steps to help a friend n n Identify specific sources of help Talk to the individual when they are sober Listen to their response Offer to go with them Warning signs (p. 613, figure 23. 5) n n n Gets drunk or high regularly, often hung-over Lies about they drugs they are using, constantly talks about drugs Stops participating in activities that used to be important to them
