Living a Changed Life Eph. 4: 21 -24

Text—Eph. 4: 21 -24 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

Looking at the Text • • You were taught by Christ and learned from Him Having learned some things must be “put off” (the old man) Having learned some things must be “put on” (the new man) All of this is tied to repentance

Repentance—in the Greek The Greek word is: meta-noeo There is a corresponding word: pro-noeo NOEO = is the mind META-noeo is literally the mind afterwards PRO-noeo is literally the mind before META-NOEO is the word translated repent = have a new mind PRO-NOEO is the mind you have before you repent—it is the mind which says to God “I will not” • It begins with godly sorry (2 Cor. 7: 10) – ends with fruits (Mt. 3: 8) • •

Application of Repentance Pro-noeo (the old man) before • • “Put of the old man” Lying Anger/wrath Stealing Evil talking Meta-noeo (the new man) after “Put on the new man” Speak truth Anger and no sin, no place for devil Honest work Edifying speech 29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
