Quick Start Guide
Turn on Bluetooth Pairing Your Smartpen After downloading the free Livescribe+ application, turn on your Bluetooth and search for devices Open the application and go to settings. Select “Connect to Smartpen” to begin searching Enter Pairing Mode: (2 ways) Press down with your pen on a non-smartpaper surface for 5 seconds to enter pairing mode Press “Device Pairing” often found in the front of your notebook to enter pairing mode Your pen light should be flashing blue when done successfully Accept Smartpen When prompted on the Livecribe+ app, accept the Smartpen Your pen should display a solid blue light when complete
Taking notes on smartpaper with the pen shows up automatically on the Livescribe + app Livescribe+ Application These notes can be reviewed at any time across all devices. Auto-syncing with cloud services such as Google Drive is also available To record a pencast (Notes and audio recorded simultaneously) simply tap “record” at the bottom of your smartpaper Make sure your pen is connected to your smartphone’s Livescribe+ app The notes should appear green to indicate audio. Tap the notes with the pen and the app will play the audio it recorded when the note was written

Smartpen- How do I turn on and turn off my smartpen? Question: How do I turn on and turn off my smartpen? FAQ’s & Trouble. Shooting Answer: There is no power button. The pen was made to be simple and easier to handle and our intelligent power management module was designed to automatically manage smartpen power settings based on user activity. The pen goes into sleep mode after a period of inactivity and wakes up as soon as you start writing. When the pen is not connected with any Bluetooth device, solid green, the pen goes into sleep mode after 40 seconds of inactivity. When connected with a Bluetooth device, solid blue, the pen goes into sleep mode after 15 minutes of inactivity. Pen powers OFF only when the battery is below 5% and the pen needs to be charged using a USB power source in order to power ON.
40064 - How long does the battery last on the pen Question: FAQ’s & Trouble. Shooting How long does the battery last between charges? Answer: The smartpen has a rechargeable lithium polymer battery that can handle up to 10 hours of continuous writing. Recharge the battery by connecting the accompanying micro-USB cable to the micro-USB port on the back end of the pen. It will take up to 90 minutes to fully charge the battery. 40467 - How do I pair my smartpen with a new Bluetooth device? FAQ’s & Trouble. Shooting Question: How do I pair my smartpen with a new Bluetooth device? Answer: Method 1: Tap on the "Device Pairing" smartpaper icon on any Livescribe notebook with the tip of your pen to enter pairing mode (blinking blue LED). Method 2: Press down and hold the pen tip for 3 seconds on any non. Livescribe paper surface to enter pairing mode (blinking blue LED). Once the pen is blinking blue, open the Livescribe+ app from the device and select Options --> "Connect to smartpen" The app should identify the pen and request for pairing permission.
40462 - Smartpen Settings Question: What options are in the smartpen settings? Answer: FAQ’s & Trouble. Shooting When the pen is connected via Bluetooth to the Livescribe+ app on your smartphone or tablet, you will be able to access master pen settings screen by: -Tapping on smartpen icon on (upper right) Firmware Update: In detailed smartpen settings screen. Select “Check for firmware update” option first to check if there any new updates available for your smartpen. If a new smartpen is available, the user will be given an option to update their smartpen firmware to the latest version. Upon successful firmware update, the pen restarts and will automatically reconnect with the smartphone or tablet. It is always recommended to have the latest firmware on the pen. Master Reset: To do a factory reset of your smartpen. Note that when you reset your smartpen, all your data, written data and Bluetooth device data, will be lost. Note: It is recommended that the users sync all their written data with all their devices before master reset. Clean Memory: When your smartpen memory is more than 90%, you will receive a notification whenever your pen wakes up from sleep mode indicating that your memory is above 90% level. To clear memory and free-up space, use the ‘Clean Memory’ option that is under smartpen settings menu. Note: This will erase all stored data from your smartpen. It is therefore recommended that you sync your smartpen with all your active devices before deleting data. Pen Sound: You can turn ON or OFF your smartpen sound notifications under the Livescribe+ smartpen settings page. This will prevent the smartpen from making sound, but will also prevent any notification sounds such as the low battery indicator or error alert. 40470 Troubleshooting continuous beeping and pairing issue Answer: In order to correct this issue can you please update your pens firmware from v 2. 1. 1. 10 to the newest version v 2. 1. Ensure that you have the latest version Livescribe+ application on your device. Livescribe+ *- i. OS - v 2. 5. 3 (as of Mar 7 th 2019) Livescribe+ - Android - v 2. 5. 3 (as of Mar 7 th 2019) With the latest version Livescribe+ application on either i. OS and Android, you can update the pen firmware via Bluetooth. Question: I am having issues with my pen continuously beeping and not pairing. FAQ’s Firmware v 2. 1 will address: Error beep when users make pen down on any Livescribe paper Bluetooth connectivity related issues Please note: The pen needs to have a minimum 50% battery level for the firmware upgrade to be successful. If the pen's battery level is below 50%, the application will throw an error (Object refused error 9). If the pen is in continuous beeping (blinking red LED) or is not pairing Please follow below steps: Forget the smartpen from list of connected Bluetooth devices. Restart your mobile device. The LED on the pen will turn solid green. Hold the ink cartridge down using your finger or against any non Livescribe surface ( it could be the front cover of the notebook ) for 3 seconds until it flashes blue. Open the Livescribe+ application and go to the menu and click on “Connect to smartpen”. 40470 - AEGIR Troubleshooting continuous beeping and pairing issue Question: I am having issues with my pen continuously beeping and not pairing. You will know when the smartpen is connected when you are able to see the smartpen Icon in the top right hand corner of the Livescirbe+ application. Click on the smartpen icon. Click on more details. Click on firmware version Click on “Yes” when asked to update the smartpens firmware. While the firmware is being updated there is just one screen that says "Downloading pen firmware. Please wait. . . " During firmware upgrade the smartpen's LED will be blue and there will be no change until the firmware upgrade process is completed After successful firmware upgrade, the smartpen will restart and reconnect back with the mobile device. If the pen does not reconnect back with the mobile device, please forget the smartpen from the connected Bluetooth devices and try pairing the pen again with the Livescribe+ application on your phone. Please note: If you interrupt smartpens firmware upgrade process, then you will have to restart the process from the beginning again. ” If you have any issues with this process please contact us via our support page.
