Why meet now? • Mechanics production is ‘basically finished’ • Installation dates are agreed for 2019 • Prototype control and acquisition installed and tested in PS • Preliminary results are good, looks like we will have the go-ahead to replace existing systems from all machines (ie, PS) • Next steps involve a broadening of interfaces and activities • • • Series production, assembly test and installation of electronics and acquisition hardware Firmware specification, writing, and hand-over to software team Software writing and hand-over to OP team for operational software Commissioning in the different machines Hand-over to operations • Issues: • Interfaces between the different teams and groups • Managing expectations of the OP team in the early days/weeks • Resource management with BI experts and succession planning

How can we make sure this works? • Continue the ‘electro-mechanical’ meetings, which follow-up

How can we make sure this works? • Continue the ‘electro-mechanical’ meetings, which follow-up on the technical progress and issues • Expand them to include SW team (Loic, +? ? ) • Invite OP? ? • Do we need more ‘steering’ meetings like this one? • Is the resource allocation clear/sufficient? • How do we manage these hand-overs? • Firmware to software, software to operations, ‘expert’ to operations • Do we need one or more internal ‘reviews’ to make sure we are all agreed?

Mechanics Production status Metallic optical disc quality issue (from supplier in NL) appears to be fully resolved. 15/30 accepted as of 15/11/18 – good work from Dmitry and Jose! The rest should be complete before end of Nov. MME visited tank supplier on 8/11. First deliveries before end of November

Mechanics Production Status • Instruments • Vacuum acceptance now in-progress with the series discs integrated • Preliminary results are good • Tanks • Delivery should start before end of Nov. • Pre-series of 4 tanks, will be used to accelerate vacuum tests of instruments • UHV cleaning process of the supplier has been qualified, but preseries will be re-tested at CERN • Support structures • In production, components expected before end 2018. • Assembly and test in early 2019
