LIU PS TFB system Status and outlook G. Kotzian, LIU-PS-ADT, 12/06/2018 https: //indico. cern. ch/event/735662/
Existing Situation [1] G. Sterbini, A. Blas, and S. Gilardoni, “BEAM-BASED PERFORMANCE OF THE CERN PS TRANSVERSE FEEDBACK”, in Proc. HB 2014, East-Lansing, MI, USA, November 2014. • After LS 2 the beam injection energy in the PS will increase from 1. 4 Ge. V to 2 Ge. V. • In order to damp potential beam trajectory errors at injection (up to +/- 3 mm) within a millisecond, the transverse kicker needs to be supplied with 5 k. W of RF power per electrode (4 x 5 k. W total), to avoid an increase in transverse emittance due to filamentation [1]. • The present setup, delivering only 3 k. W peak during 2 ms and 800 W CW, needs thus to be upgraded. • The transverse feedback system is presently located in room 355/R-017, which cannot host the new equipment. • Another room needs thus to be found near the equipment in the PS ring (pick-ups in SS 98/SS 02 and kicker in SS 97) as a short distance benefits the efficiency and robustness of the system. • Room 355/R-009 was found to offer a good potential as there is space available for new racks and it is only 18 meters away from the present equipment, which satisfies the signal delay constraints.
