LIU beam instrumentation in the SPS Beam Profile
LIU beam instrumentation in the SPS
Beam Profile Measurement Systems (1) o Wire scanners: • Lots of progress with currently operational system • Bunch-by-bunch mode: the only operational mode for WS: prep for post-LS 2 • Noise reduction • Work ongoing on the improved analysis algorithms together with analysis logging and preparation of statistics according to LHC beam type o Prototype installed in LSS 5: plans for this year: decide on acquisition system o Towards wirescans with 288 bunches at 450 Ge. V: tests for new type of wires • 30 um test wire installed on 521 H linear scanner in the SPS 1
Beam Profile Measurements (2) o BSRT and BGI FESA classes to be finished for 1 st of May 2018 o Work on operational application has started already 2
FBCT o First operational experience with new FBCT in 2017 • Accuracy on main LHC bunch intensity measurement much improved o Not fully operational yet: • Calibration algorithms missing in sequencer/application • Not working with ions • Not working with fixed target beams • Uncaptured beam “invisible” FBCT 5 FBCT 3 3
Other instrumentation o Continuous bunch length measurement through cycle • FESA class being finished • Operational application in preparation o Diamond BLMs on TPSGs and scrapers • Had asked for histogram mode: but algorithm was not ideal ~ not proportional to loss • For 2018: raw waveforms also acquired. MD and analysis needed to define algorithms o New MOPOS: vertical slice test foreseen for later this year 4
