Our facilities We operate from rooms on the first floor of the Jubilee Community Centre with a dedicated area securely closed off to the public whilst we are in operation. It consists of a cloak area where you can help your child get ready for their day, leave their coats and shoes, read helpful information and find any pieces of work made by your child. Our bathrooms are also accessed from this spaces as is the push chair storage area and two playrooms. We have two play spaces, one smaller one which doubles as a sleeping space for all who may need it and a quiet play space for chill out time if required. The main play room is where all children will spend most of their time as we operate an all age nursery. The garden area is accessed from the main playroom via outside steps or from the cloak area via inside steps or the lift. The garden has a walk in sandpit, mud kitchen area, planting/growing space and some chill out areas to be made into whatever the children wish it to be

Some Q and A’s What would the child’s day look like? It really depends on the time of day they are starting but a full day would be something along the lines of this: Start at around 8 and can have breakfast if they need it. Playing with friends and staff until around 9. 30 when we would have a whole group Keep Fit session. (We believe children need to stay active and this is a way we input the idea that keeping healthy, moving our bodies and getting sweaty is a good thing) Children can choose what to do from the different core areas on offer (craft, painting, dough, drawing, sensory, floor play, physical, puzzles, doll play, loose parts, construction, book corner, feelings area, talking space, telephone chat space, small world, interest table and curiosity trays and floor space and garden) In addition we have cooking activities, walks out and about and the occasional visitor. The staff work with the children at the activity of their choosing, encouraging language, thinking skills and generally helping to prolong their engagement and learning. Snack is on offer from 10 and lunch from 11. 30 we find that rolling snack and lunch currently works well for us as we do not need to pull the children away from an activity they are engrossed in if they are not hungry. Children are given warnings about lunch and encouraged to help lay the table and tidy up after by washing their dishes. After lunch more free flow activities and if they have not been out in the garden we would be suggesting garden play. The children are encouraged to help tidy the room at around 2. 30 and move to whole group snack followed by a short time of table top play, the children are encouraged to choose what activities are on the tables and there are usually two or three different activities for the children to move between. For those staying for tea we have a short singing session just before tea which is served at 4.
Q and A’s cont… When and where can my child sleep? We have a sleep room equipped with cots, mattresses and snuggle baskets, we also have pushchairs to help children fall asleep when they are not used to sleeping in a cot during the day. They will be transferred once sleeping wherever possible. We try and accommodate most children’s sleep pattern , which is one of the reasons we like rolling snack and lunch, nap time can usually be fitted around meals and the children don’t then have to eat alone. What happens with nappy changes? We change children when they need it recording wet and dirty nappies on Tapestry Care Diaries for parent information (under 2’s) Children are checked regularly as they play alongside staff. The cost of nappies is now included in our hourly rate. If you wish to supply your own cloth nappies we are happy for you to do this.
Q and A’s cont……… What happens when my child starts? We will ask you to attend some transition sessions with your child, first staying to play, we actually operate a Stay and Play session twice a week which we use for parents to settle their children or to attend extra sessions a little like a Toddler Group. This is limited to 5 extra adults and priority is given to settling children. You will stay and chat with the Family Group Leader and give her as much information as you can about your child. She will then start playing with them and eventually you will be able to leave for 10 minutes or so, building up to half an hour. Once we are both happy with the transition then you will be able to start normal sessions. In general this takes around 5 sessions depending on the child’s age and previous experience.
We hope this gives you a small insight into our Nursery We understand this is not the best way to view a Nursery, the place where your child will spend a good part of their life. However, at this point in time we believe it to be a way we can show you a flavour of our Nursery and perhaps wet your appetite. We are happy to answer any questions you may have. As soon as we are able we will arrange some proper visits, this may however help you make a short list. If you have not already done so you could also check out our web page and our face book page. We look forward to meeting you when it is safe to do so.
