Literature Paper One • This paper is called Shakespeare and the 19 th Century novel • There are 64 marks in total. • The time given is 1 hour 45 minutes • It is worth 40 % of your literature GCSE
Question one • Section A • In question one you should answer ONE question from this section on your chosen text. • You will have to flick through to find the question on Romeo and Juliet. • You will be given an extract from the play. You will have to answer the question based on a character and the play as a whole. • This is worth 30 marks.
Section B of paper one will be on the novel The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. • It is up to you to find your question in the booklet. • You will be given an extract you will be asked to answer a question based on that extract. You will also have to refer to the novel as a whole. • This is worth thirty marks.
Literature Exam Paper Two • This paper is longer and has more questions than paper one.
Section A Modern Prose • In the first section of the exam, you will be given a choice of two questions from the modern prose or drama. In your case, you must look for the question on An Inspector Calls. You will be presented with a choice of two questions. • How and why does Sheila change in An Inspector Calls? • Or • How does Priestly explore responsibility in An Inspector Calls? • You will notice that you are given a choice between character and theme. • In my opinion, the question on character is easier to tackle. • 30 marks
Section B Poetry • You must answer one question from this section. It is the comparison question. You will be given a poem from the anthology cluster, Love and Relationships. You will be asked to compare the poem to another poem in the poetry cluster. • The poems will be listed for you. As you are aware, you will not be given a copy of the poems. • 30 marks
Section C is the unseen poetry. • You will be given two poems which you have never seen before. You have to answer both questions in this section. • The first question is 24 marks. • The second question is 8 marks.
How will I be assessed? • The entire exam will take 2 hours and 15 minutes. • There are 96 marks in total • This literature GCSE
