What is phonology? Phonology: » one of the sub-fields of linguistics. » the study of sound system and abstract sound units

											• Linking When we say a sentence in English, we join or "link" words to each other. Because of this linking, the words in a sentence do not always sound the same as when we say them individually. Linking is very important in English. If you recognize and use linking, two things will happen: 1. you will understand other people more easily 2. other people will understand you more easily

											• Sounds link Linking is a way of joining the pronunciation of two words so that they are easy to say and flow together smoothly. In English there are different ways that this happens. A. Consonant to vowel linking - when the first word ends with a consonant sound and the second word begins with a vowel sound. B. Vowel to vowel linking – when certain vowels come next to each other an extra sound is added to make the link smooth.
