One Point Perspective 2 D Art
What is one point perspective? • Drawing method that shows how things appear to get smaller as they get further away, converging towards a single ‘vanishing point’ on the horizon line. It is a way of drawing objects upon a flat piece of paper (or other drawing surface) so that they look three-dimensional and realistic. • Drawing in one point perspective is usually appropriate when the subject is viewed ‘front-on’ (such as when looking directly at the face of a cube or the wall of building) or when looking directly down something long, like a road or railway track. It is popular drawing method with architects and illustrators, especially when drawing room interiors.
Example of One Point Perspective
When objects face the viewer In this one point perspective photo, surfaces facing the viewer are undistorted and show their true shape. For example, we see the side of the bath, window and facing surfaces as ordinary squares and rectangles. Their sides are parallel with the edges of the photograph.
Forms do not have to be a cube or a rectangular prism
Renaissance Perspective Systems • Humanist scientific study of the natural world and their belief that “man was the measure of all things” brought forth the invention of a mathematical system that represented the physical world. Looks almost like an illusion. Alberti first used this method in his paintings around 1420 AD. • Linear Perspective, One Point Perspective, and Mathematical Orthogonal- imaginary lines leading to one vanishing point Foreshortening- a distortion method to show objects closest to the viewer’s eye is larger than the other parts of the painting. Atmospheric Perspective- applied to landscape scenes that haze in the atmosphere causes distant elements to appear less distinct and colorful. Illumination- an illustration within books

Two Point Perspective 2 D Art
What is Two Point Perspective? • Two-point perspective occurs when you can see two vanishing points from your point of view. Two-point perspective drawings are often used in architectural drawings and interior designs; they can be used for drawings of both interiors and exteriors.
