Outing to Nikko (cont. ) The lavish decorations of Toshogu Shrine Toshogu is a Shinto shrine established to enshrine the founder of the last Shogunate, and famous by its lavish decorations. Outing to Nikko (cont. ) Existing highways Nikko New highway ~70 km Tokyo Sep. 30, 2008 Tsukuba A new highway is to open this winter connecting two existing highways. With the new highway, we can go from Tsukuba to Nikko without going through Tokyo area. It shortens the travel time to ~1. 5 hour, and reduces the risk of delay in schedule due to traffic jam. 16 IOC meeting at LINAC 08

Ohya Mine: Other Option When It Rains n Large underground quarries worked for lacustrine tuff as dimension stone, much used in central Japan for garden walls. One enormous quarried cavern was used during WW 2 for underground fighter plane assembly, and this is now open for tourism. Sep. 30, 2008 IOC meeting at LINAC 08 17
