Survey Uses Understand LIHEAP Recipient Situations Identify Trends in Energy Need Document Consequences of Unaffordable Energy Bills Inform Policymakers and Public of Need for LIHEAP

Survey Highlights Poorest Families 82% of respondents had incomes under $20 k/year, 61% under 100% FPL Vulnerable Populations 92% of respondents had at least one household member 60+, disabled, or child <18 Making Tough Choices 72% of respondents reduced spending on other necessities to pay for heat Meeting Multiple Needs 42% of respondents received LIHEAP 1 or 2 years out of the past 5, while 26% received it each of the past 5 years. More Families with Broken Heating/AC Systems 20% of respondents had a broken heating system, 25% had broken A/C. Preventing Disconnect Notices 64% of respondents did not receive a disconnection notice in the previous year
