Light Stage lighting is the technique of lighting as it applies to the production of theatre, dance, opera and other performance arts. Different types of stage lighting instruments are used in this category. In addition to basic lighting, modern stage lighting can also include special effects, such as lasers and fog machines.

Types of Light • Light Board: This is the system board that controls all the stage lights. • Light Plot: This is the blueprint of the positions of where the stage lights are in theatre. • Automated or Moving Lights: This light can change colour, design and can rotate. It is usually used for rock ‘n’ roll. • General Wash Lights: This is a big spot light that can’t be focused, there are many kinds of general wash lights. • Fresnel: This is a soft-edged spotlight that allows for a variable beam spread. • Ellipsoidal Reflector Spotlight (ERS): This is a more focused light than the Fresnel. It allows greater control and shaping the edges which creates different designs of light.
