Term/concept New Concepts New concepts Explanation Social Justice q Justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities and privileges within a society Environmental Justice q Is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, colour, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations and policies. Social Responsibility q Is an ethical theory in which individuals / businesses are accountable for fulfilling their civic duty, the actions of an individual / business must benefit the whole society. In this way, there must be a balance between economic growth and the welfare of society. Economic Factors q Various economic factors need to be taken into account when determining the current and expected future value of a business or investment portfolio. For a business, key economic factors include labour costs, interests rates, government policy, taxes, etc. Environmental Factors q As known as Ecological Factors, are any factors, abiotic or biotic that influences living organization. Abiotic: Include amount of sunlight and of water soil. Biotic: Availability of food organisms, presence of predators

Housing beneficiaries fear for their lives as their newly- built low-cost houses are crumbling. Occupants say that in less than a year the houses show structural defects, with cracks and flood in when it rains. About a thousand houses have been built since 2012. A fifty year –old homeowner says her family move into her low – cost house last year and three months later a wall collapsed. The community says local authorities have not attended to their complaints. We raised our concerns with the executive manager but he never showed any concern, says a community leader. The MEC for human settlement in the province said they had not received any complains from the community. EXTRACT ON: MUNICIPALITY ACTS AGAINST ILLEGAL DUMPING Environment & services that promotes safe & healthy living The Langeni municipality announced the launch of an illegal dumping awareness project. This follows the behaviour of community member dumping a whole lot of rubbish in the streets and market places. Some parents reported to the municipality that they found their children playing with dirty needles, used bandages and expired medicine bottles dumped outside the health clinic.

The violence came as students protests erupted on university campuses across South Africa. The aim was to pressurise universities to lower tuition fees in a campaign called Fees must Fall. Impact of Vision on actions and behavior: A woman with a vision CASE STUDY Gugu Mofokeng is a young woman who works for Whiz kids, a community organisation that looks after young people, mostly orphaned by HIV/ AIDS. Gugu has a Marketing Management Diploma from Durban University of Technology. I have always had a passion for doing community work, especially when it involves children. I took every opportunity to volunteer in community organisations. ‘If I had pursued a career in marketing I would probably be richer now but I would not have had joy I have’. Gugu dreams of running her own organisation in five years. She says empowering her community on health issues makes her feel rich. My mother is very happy about the person I have become.
