Lickey Hills Primary School and Nursery Friday 19 th March 2021 Dear Families, As

Lickey Hills Primary School and Nursery Friday 19 th March 2021 Dear Families, As you will see from the content of the newsletter this week, we are all delighted to be back with our friends and staff at LHPSN. The children have settled well and we were very pleased to welcome Year 1 back to school today after their isolation. Next week marks the first year anniversary of lockdown one. To commemorate this, and ensure children at LHPSN remember this important time in their life, work has begun on the wellbeing garden. Mr Gittens and Mr Tyler have been busy weeding and digging over the soil so it’s now ready to be planted out by Year 4 with Mrs Chivers over the coming weeks. During lockdown one the parents of our key worker children kindly donated funds for a tree to be planted in our garden. With a wonderful total of £ 500, we can also purchase pollinator friendly plants, herbs, bird feeders and garden tools. Once established, it will be a wonderful area for the children to enjoy and learn about the natural world and a positive legacy of Covid for future generations of LHPSN children. Thank you to all parents who donated and to Mrs Grinbergs (Freya Y 1) for her fundraising efforts bringing everything together. If you would like to donate time, plants or funds to our wellbeing garden please contact Mrs Chivers at office@lickeyhills. worcs. sch. uk Have a wonderful weekend, Miss Salisbury Lateral Flow Tests Attendance award YR 1 92. 22% YR 2 98. 85% YR 3 98. 64% YR 4 98. 13% The testing centre next to Aldi on Birmingham Road are giving Parents of primary school children boxes of COVID home testing kits (rapid antigen test). What have we been up to this fortnight? Nursery The nursery children have settled

What have we been up to this fortnight? Nursery The nursery children have settled back into routines well and are happy to be back with their friends. They have been enjoying the traditional tale of Jack and the Beanstalk and have been experimenting with some ‘magic beans’ to see which will grow. We even had giant footprints in nursery where the giant had left us a note with a challenge to find different ways to measure his feet. Now the weather is getting better, the children have been spending time in our wonderful nursery garden. We will be going on our spring walk on the field on Monday, 22 nd March. Please make sure your child has their wellies. Reception It has been so lovely to welcome all of our Reception back; the children have settled in beautifully. It's been lovely to catch up with everyone. We had a busy first week looking at our phonics and sharing how well the children can blend and segment to read. We have also learnt about Mother's Day. This week, we are celebrating St Patrick’s Day and thinking about people who help us ready for Comic Relief on Friday. We are also enjoying our maths mornings, which we have started twice a week, and this week we are combining sets. Year 1 have left the lockdown travel restrictions behind and taken a very essential trip back in time to London 1666 this week. We have started to learn all about the significant event of 'The Great Fire of London' and in the coming weeks, we will explore why it was so important and how it has changed the way we live today! Year 2 have settled back into routine very quickly and were soon back to work enjoying their learning. We have started looking at our Pioneers theme including being introduced to Neil Armstrong, Mary Anning and Amelia Earhart. We've also been finding out about Charles Darwin and his voyage around the world on HMS Beagle looking at living and non-living things; fossils, scientific sketching of shells and looking at the wildlife of the Galapagos Islands. Meanwhile, in PE we've been working on fielding and our hitting skills with simplified versions of rounders. We can't wait to find out what we'll be doing next. KS 2 It has been so lovely to welcome back all the children into school this week. Since last Monday morning there has been an air of excitement all through the KS 2 corridors. Watching the children see many of their friends and teachers for the first time, face to face since January, has been a sight to behold. All of the children, across the Key Stage have been fantastic and have settled back into learning together so quickly, although many were very tired after the first full day, as were the staff! The children deserve real credit for the way they have seamlessly settled back into our rules and routines and adhering to the expectations we set. This has been particularly seen by the Year 6 Bikeability children being specially commended by the visiting instructors for their behaviour and listening this week! I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you on behalf of the KS 2 staff for all the hard work you did with the children over the past months - the brilliant way in which the children have returned is a testament to your efforts. Mr Brewer Language Base It is lovely to have the children back in Language Base and we have settled back into our classrooms and daily routines with ease. The children are as enthusiastic as always and so comfortable with each other. LB 1 have been exploring fantasy stories including 'The Tunnel' by Anthony Browne and 'Where the Wild Things are, ' by Maurice Sandek. The pupils loved our tunnel and imagining what was at the other end. We have also taken over responsibility of two planters within the Well. Being Garden. Please explore the weekly blog to see how we are getting on transforming it. What a brilliant group of young people! LB 2 have been working hard on our new class books and the children are enjoying meeting Bob - The Man on the Moon, or, in Year 6, researching the background to Journey to Jo'burg. We have also enjoyed celebrating St Patrick's Day and Mother's Day. Please see this week's LB communication letters for further details. The Hive Firstly, I would like to thank you all for your patience with your March invoices. I am currently in the process of emailing them out to you. It has been a lovely two weeks welcoming all of the children back to school and the Hive. Luckily, the weather has been on our side and we have been spending many afternoons on the playground enjoying the sunshine! Now we are back and settled into our routine we are reintroducing “Fun Food Friday”. Already the children have been putting in their requests, which is lovely! Just a reminder to our “Hopper” parents. If you are planning on sending your children to the Hive I need your days and times emailed to me with notice please. Have a lovely weekend. Miss Lynch
