The Challenges and Vision S To manage the significantly greater demand for services within the context of reduced staffing and resources S To begin to address the infrastructural deficit. Strand 5: Literacy, Information and Learning S National Literacy and Numeracy Strategy identifies libraries as vital in supporting children’s literacy S SDL will optimise value by liaison with stakeholders to ensure excellence in service delivery of literacy programmes S Develop the Doodle Den concept at branch level across the County and deliver Ready 2 Read pre literacy programmes S Develop an Information Literacy Strategy for digital inclusion at community level across lifetime of the plan S Expand the information literacy and whole school registration initiatives – Adamstown Community College/ Holy Rosary models 11 th September 2012

Strand 7: Libraries in the Digital Age S One in five in the County have no internet access – the digital divide is still very real – public libraries as information providers have a critical role here S Libraries without Walls – what ‘smart’ library services really means S Website enrichment – particularly Information queries – federated searching – first Irish Library Service to deliver this in 2013 will transform access to information for citizens of the County S Cloud Computing – Government strategy – facilitate shared services, minimize capital investment 11 th September 2012
