TECHNOLOGICAL PLATFORMS • The library has an assortment of technological platforms for patron use: 1. Kindles donated by the city 2. Homework laptops for children 3. E-Books through 3 M Program
ALL ABOUT THE LIBRARY’S WI-FI • Wi-Fi is provided to the library through the city of Pocatello. • Patrons’ smartphones and personal computers will automatically log onto Wi-Fi. • Doesn’t cost anything for patrons to use. • Don’t need an account through the library in order to use. • Wi-Fi signal is strong and can reach to the parking lot. • People often use Wi-Fi for free from their cars when library is closed.
COMPUTER WORKSTATIONS • First floor of library within Children’s Section 1. Up to 4 computers for homework use with no internet connection. 2. Free printing for up to 10 pages for homework use. • Second floor of library within Reference section 1. 10 personal computers with internet connection. 2. 1 e-mail computer with 15 minute limit. 3. 1 computer with microscope for seeing impaired with no internet connection.
CLOUD BASED SERVICES • Some cloud based services that require log in name and password. 1. Novelist 2. Student Resource Center 3. Chilton Library • Some cloud based services that don’t require log in name or password. 1. Learning Express Library 2. The Old Storytellers 3. Tumble Talking Books
LIBRARY’S PERSONAL 3 D PRINTERS • 3 D printers are located on the first floor within the children’s section. • Can only be used with permission by on duty librarian. • What a patron needs to do in order to use 3 D printers: 1. On duty librarian must be with them at all times. 2. Read through instruction manual. 3. Can only print pre-approved objects. 4. Must stay with 3 D printer until object has been printed.
TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES • Library has purchased very popular 3 D printers. • Library has purchased new printers for homework computers. • Library has created Makerspaces for children and young adults. • Library has purchased Arduino for teens and young adults.
WHAT ARE ARDUINOS? • Arduinos are open-sourced electronic prototyping platforms based on easy to use hardware and software. • Small computers that allow teens and young adults to learn about computer programming. • Teaches about what computers are made of and how to fix the individual components.
