PRIDE MONTH • Pride Month is held each June in honor of the Stonewall Uprising that took place in June in 1969 • This is a month-long celebration of members of the LGTBQ+ community and to promote their rights and equality • In celebration many cities around the world put on parades, festivals, musical performances, memorials and much more! • Many stores, and people put up Pride flags in solidarity and celebration
STONEWALL • Stonewall Inn is a gay bar in Greenwich, Manhattan • In the early hours of June 28 th , 1969 police raided the bar • The raid turned into a violent, protests then went on for days following the raid • This is marked as the start to the gay liberation movement and the fight for LGTBQ+ rights in the United States

PRIDE MONTH CELEBRATIONS 2019 • In NY: • An opening ceremony at the Barclay center with performances by Ciara, Todrick Hall, DJ Lina and more • A March through Greenwich Village to Time Square, where the closing party took place • Euro. Pride: • The venue changes each year, but it was hosted in Vienna, Austria in 2019 • There was a Pride Village that was set up to host a number of festivities • A parade was also one of the major events for this celebration
PRIDE MONTH CELEBRATION 2019 • Madrid: • It is considered to have held the largest parade in the world, with floats and musical performances. The parade went from Atocha Station to Plaza de Colon • Chueca served as the center for many events such as musical performances, parties and drag shows
PRIDE MONTH 2020 • Due to the Global Pandemic, Pride month looks slightly different as it is not possible to hold the same large gatherings as before. • Instead, people have come up with great and creative ways to still celebrate such as : • On June 27 th Global Pride is hosting a 24 hour stream of content to celebrate • People and businesses are still hanging the Pride flag across cities • Online conferences, performances and workshops are being planned • In NY, people are encouraging individuals to run in their neighborhoods and share photos of their run as part of a Virtual Pride 5 k
