Lewis and Clark Lewis was American explorer and lead the journey of Lewis and Clark was an American frontiersman and a soldier. Lewis & Clark’s journey started May 14, 1803 and ended in 1806. They explored the Northwest of the United States or the Louisiana perches. President Thomas Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark’s journey. Lewis and Clark went on their journey to explore the Louisiana perches.

Purchasing Seaman In 1803 at the Mississippi River, Lewis purchased a dog named Seaman to take on his adventure. Seaman was a 150 pound New Finland dog. This dog was great because he could swim and hunt. His kept him warm in cold weather. The dog could also save men from drowning. Seaman was the only pet on the trip. To Slide 3 Map
Meeting Sacagawea: In October 1804 Lewis and Clark stopped at Fort Mandan for the winter. Built a fort near the village of Mandan and near the Hidatsa Indians. Along came a French Canadian trader and his wife Sacagawea, and they joined the group. This event was important to the Lewis and Clark expedition because they met Sacagawea help Lewis and Clark know what to eat and pick for food , how to stay warm, and to help if they ran into other Indian tribes. Reaching the Pacific Ocean: Lewis and Clark reached the Pacific Ocean November 12, 1805. After they got to the Pacific Ocean they spent the winter at Fort Clatsop. When they were there Lewis and Clark studded the land people. The event was important to the Lewis and Clark journey because if they didn’t reach the Pacific Ocean they wouldn’t have bin successful to President Thomas Jefferson and our nation. To Map
