Levels of Teaching -Teaching is a purposeful activity. Through teaching the teacher brings a desirable change in the learner. In teaching process content is an important approach without it teaching cannot takes place.


Memory level of Teaching It is the first and thoughtless level of teaching. It is concerned with memory or mental ability that exists in all living beings. Teaching at memory level is considered to be the lowest level of teaching.

OBJECTIVES �Acquisition of presented facts through rote learning. �Retention and Reproduction (through recall and recognition) of the acquired factual information as and when needed.

CHARACTERISTICS q. Subject matter is important not learner’s experience. q. Learning is short lived. q. Teaching have no impact on learners personality.

q. Pressure on learner. q. Drill and practice required to promote learning. q. Continuous motivation is required.

NATURE OF SUBJECT MATTER & ITS PRESENTATION q. Simple things are taught to students that can be memorized easily. q. The subject matter is well organized and is simple in nature so that it can be acquired through rote learning.

q. Subject matter includes the information about simple concepts, terms, and elements related to different things of the world around us. q Knowledge delivered to learners is definite, structured and observable.

ROLE OF LEARNER q. Passive/Recessive Role q. Mind container

MERITS q. Useful for children at lower classes. q. Memory power increases. q. Recall and recognition ability increases. q. It is pre-requisite for understanding level teaching.

DEMERITS q. No development of the student’s capabilities. q. Lacks motivation. q. Less interaction between teacher and student. q. Knowledge gained does not prove helpful in real life situations.

SUGGESTIONS q. The teaching material should be meaningful and purposeful. q. The teaching material should have a definite structure and it should be simple to complex. q. Adequate and appropriate teaching aids should be used for teaching.

q All parts of the content should be integrated and well sequenced. q The subject-matter should be presented in a systematic and organized way. q There must be continuous evaluation to measure the improved memory power of students.

q The retention of the material in memory of students can be increased by more practice and exercise. q The continuous reinforcement should be provided during the course of instruction.
