WHY IS A SECONDARY SCHOOL DIPLOMA IMPORTANT? v. Secondary School Diplomas are required to get into CEGEP v. While DEP programs (Vocational Training) do not require Secondary School Diplomas, they are considered an asset in these programs v. Jobs and employers may ask to see your high school transcript (even part time jobs)

WHAT IS VOCATIONAL TRADE TRAINING? v Training for a specific job. Its focus is on the practical application of skills, it teaches how to and places less emphasis on theory. There are public and private vocational / trade schools.
APPRENTICESHIP v. What is it? A system of skills training which is done on the job while working for employers who help apprentices to learn while they earn. It is a way of simultaneously gaining qualifications and work place experience. Usually requires a diploma of some type before getting into an apprenticeship (depends on the job).

It combines the practical application of skills along with the basic theoretical principles v There are public and private CEGEPS

UNIVERSITY v. A bachelor's degree is the first degree a student can earn in university. In Quebec, it requires 3 years, and is usually 90 credits. Most of the 90 credits need to be in the same field to complete a bachelor's degree. A degree program focuses on a particular academic discipline, but offers freedom to explore other areas. (B. Sc → Bachelor of Science, B. A → Bachelor of Arts) v A master's degree is a post-graduate degree (after a bachelors) earned after completing more credits in a field. The amount of time varies by study field/discipline. (M. Sc → Master of Science, M. A → Master of Arts) v A doctorate degree is the highest academic degree one can earn in a given field. The time it takes to earn a degree varies; anywhere between 3 to 5 years. (Ph. D) v Individuals with a university degree have professional jobs: teaching, medicine, law, engineering, psychology, etc.
