Levels of Development Countries are categorized as either ● Less Developed Countries ● Newly Industrialized Countries ● More Developed Countries

Less Developed Countries (LDCs) ● Low GDP and per capita GDP ● Limited economic development ● Lack of an industrial base (secondary economic activities) ● Higher proportion of primary activities ● Lower literacy rates (possibly a disparity between men and women) ● Lower life expectancy (poor health care)

More Developed Countries (MDCs) ● High GDP and per capita GDP ● Extensive economic development ● Higher proportion of tertiary and quaternary economic activities ● High literacy rates with gender equality ● High life expectancies (good health care)

Newly Industrialized Countries (NICs) ● Countries moving from LDC status to MDC status ● Showing in gains in one or more of the categories of development ● Higher proportion of secondary economic activities
