ML, errors, accuracy information, etc. DMP-6: DATA QUALITY-CONTROL • Feedback, comments and ratings provided by the users of the dataset, e. g. , general comments on dataset quality, identified problems, suggested use for the dataset, etc. • Domain experts’ comments on dataset quality, e. g. , results of formal quality checks, expert suggestions on the dataset applications, etc. • Citations where the dataset was used and cited, e. g. , formal reports on dataset quality checks, journal articles, etc. DOCUMENTATION • Lineage/provenance information, e. g. , processing applied to data and number of process steps. DMP-5: DATA TRACEABILITY • Informal comments about the dataset quality as provided by the dataset producer, e. g. , any identified problems, suggested use, etc. • Dataset’s compliance with international standards, e. g. , compliance with ISO 19115, Dublin Core, etc. DMP-3: DATA ENCODING

The new GEO Data Branding. A top down approach • The Data Management Principles

The new GEO Data Branding. A top down approach • The Data Management Principles (DMPs) were adopted by the XII GEO Plenary in Mexico city giving 10 principles that GEOSS providers are encouraged to follow to better conform to GEO requirements. – In practice, a dataset that follows the DMPs is considered a good GEOSS dataset. • Many of the DMPs can be tested by reading the metadata about them, other cannot directly but can be also tested by other means. • The DMP Data branding is an evolution of the GEOlabel concept. • The principles are represented by 10 icons and classified in 5 categories identified by colors: Discovery, Accessibility, Usability, Preservation and Curation.

Levels of assessment of the DMP • At the data repository level – This

Levels of assessment of the DMP • At the data repository level – This overlap with the Trustworthy Data Repositories (TDRs) ISO 16363 • At the data provider level – This is what it is already implemented in the yellow pages • At the dataset/product level – What we envision

Levels of certification of the DMP at the dataset level • Level 1: Self-assessment

Levels of certification of the DMP at the dataset level • Level 1: Self-assessment & declaration: Data providers declare which of the principles they are complying with and make use of the label to communicate conformance in their outreach materials. – “Declared compliant with GEO data management principles”. • Level 2: Peer review and automated conformance testing: An automatic conformance test based on public criteria accesses both for metadata and data. GEOSS GCI may publish the results of the conformance testing and also link to reviews. – “Reviewed/tested compliant with GEO data management principles”. • Level 3: Certification: The provider agrees with the peer review and automated conformance testing results and requests certification. An independent certification entity undertakes an audit or quality control. GEOSS GCI may publish the results of the certification. – “Certified compliant with GEO data management principles for ###”
