Letter & Its types : Letter writing is actually a means of communication. It is grouped into two broad categories: Formal & Informal. The Formal Letters include: (i) Business letters (ii) Letters to various government and nongovernment authorities (iii) Job applications (iv) Letters to the Editor of a newspaper etc.

Remember to : 1. Leave a line [space] after Sender’s Address Date Addressee’s Address Subject Sir Body of letter 2. Write the spelling of sincerely correctly. Remember that it begins with a small s. 3. Write the subject clearly in just 6 -8 words. E. g. . Complaint about Whirlpool Washing Machines / Water Scarcity in Vansant Kunj etc. 4. Add Thanking you, only if a request has been made. 5. Mention in your letter if any document enclosed with the letter. 6. If you know the person (the Principal), end the letter with ‘Yours sincerely’. If you do not know the person (editors, publishers etc. ) end with ‘Yours faithfully’ or ‘Yours truly’ (Avoid using Yours respectfully, obediently etc. )

Simple Rules of formal letter writing : Reveal your identity. Get to the point. State your reason for writing in your first paragraph and stay on track. Always include specifics that will help ease the recipient’s task. For instance, if you are writing to a bank mention your account number. If you refer to other correspondence, mention those by date, check number, etc. Gently and respectfully direct the recipient’s course of action. Always be courteous/polite

Example (Letter of Enquiry ) : You are Neha/Abhinav of class VIII of KV Motihari, Motihari , Bihar. You are the secretary of your school library. Write a letter to the Manager of Book World, RK Puram, New Delhi inquiring about the availability of few books you need for your school library.
