For this purpose we divide adjectives into short or long SHORT ( one syllable or two syllables ending in –y) LONG (two syllables not ending in –y or more syllables) SMALL MODERN BIG INTERESTING PRETTY BEAUTIFUL

For short adjectives we make the comparative form by adding -er, examples: smaller taller richer For short adjectives formed by a consonant-vowel-consonat we repeat the last consonant and add -er, examples: bigger thinner hotter

For long adjectives we write the word more before the adjective like this, more modern more interesting more beautiful There are some adjectives that are irregular. They do not follow the previous rules, they change. For example, good better bad worse far further/farther
