The Epidemic of Obesity § Over three decades childhood obesity has tripled § Every one and three children in America is either overweight or obese. § Without a solution to this problem, one third of every child born past the year 2000 will suffer from some sort of disease associated with obesity. § Some examples include heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension.
The Then and Now § Lifestyle choices of todays children is vastly different from the past children. § Enormously different portion sizes in meals. § Drastically different active activities available for after school § Some differences like watching tv, video games, and cell phones.
What is Let’s Move? § Launched by the first lady Michelle Obama § Let’s move combines comprehensive strategies with common sense to put them on the path to a healthier future. § Providing information to parents to help support healthier choices. § Giving access to healthier foods § Helping kids become more physically active
Eating Healthy § Providing nutritional information § Using My. Plate § My. Plate Recipes § Using the 3 p’s to eat healthy on a budget Plan Purchase Prepare food on a budget § Smart shopping for fruits and veggies. § Sample the 7 day menu
Get Active!! § Active families- Total 60 minutes for children; 30 minutes for adults. § Active schools- More school programs and opportunities to add more physical activity into a school day. § Active Communities- Mayors and community leaders help to promote physical fitness like providing a safe route to walk to school. § Setting goals for physical activity within SMART and eating healthier.
