What is a biome? Scientists divide the world into large natural areas called biomes. Each biome is known for certain kinds of plants and animals. It's a bit like a habitat. Why is climate important? Examples of biomes are rainforests, grasslands, savannah, deserts and tundra. Different types of plants and animals live in each biome. Climate is important because it determines the types of plants and animals—the ecosystem—that can survive in a biome. Could a polar bears survive in the Sahara desert?
