Let's Learn About Shapes! Miss Morrison First Grade
Standard: 1. G. 1 Distinguish between defining attributes (e. g. , triangles are closed and three-sided) versus non-defining attributes (e. g. , color, orientation, overall size) ; build and draw shapes to possess defining attributes. Objective: Given questions asking to match the correct shape to the defining attributes, students will be able to identify shapes by matching the defining attribute to each shape with 90% accuracy.
Polygon -A flat figure -Also called a plane figure -Two Dimensional (2 -D) -Made up of many straight lines -Closed -Named for the number of sides it has
What is a Plane? -A flat surface with no thickness -Goes on forever -Is two dimensional
Triangle -Has 3 sides -Has 3 points -Is closed
Square -Has 4 sides -Each side is the same length -Has 4 corners -Is closed
Rectangle -Has 4 sides -Has 4 corners -Is closed
Circle -Is made up of all the points on a flat surface that are the same distance from a given point
